NSC 301: Mental Health Nursing I

The course encourages Nurses to develop an awareness of acceptance of behavioural changes of the mentally sick.  Interplay of the knowledge of growth and development to mental health disorders and behavioural problems. The legal aspects of psychiatric nursing and the nurse’s role are stressed; History of mental health movements, national and international.  Growth and development:  theories, relationship of development of behaviour.  Classification of mental health disorders, discussion of specific behaviours; Intervention by health care providers: individual and group approach, therapeutic care, behaviour management; Nurse role: legal coverage.
